Big Brother Africa 4: Children, Flaviana And DJ Voodoo Rock The House!
WITH less than a week before BBA’s finale, the countdown to the announcement of the winner has begun! Eish, my BBA people’s, my nerves are shot! Already!
With a Namibian housemate in the house for the finals for the very first time, I have a feeling this is going to be one of the most nail-biting finales ever!
Who’s going to take home the money?
The remaining housemates are all strong contenders to win, each with their own fan base across Africa.
The final winner will be only be determined by votes. I know who I am backing and I hope all Namibians will continue their patriotic duty – after this weekend’s voting and vote for our boy Eddie to bring the money home to Namibia.
So, get ready for a final week of voting madness. Hope you have registered on the BBA website (www.mnetafrica.com/big brother) and as soon as we know when the voting lines open, you’ll start voting for Eddie. Get your texting fingers ready. Go Eddie, GO!
CHILDREN VISIT
Back in the house, the weekend started on a colourful and cheerful note. With a kids’ party – complete with festive balloons, delicious-looking cupcakes and even farm animals.
After all the drama between Mzamo and Itai last week, the housemates’ task wager was reduced to 33 per cent. Because of what Biggie Headmistress termed ‘aberrant behaviour’ and even though they succeeded in their task they were given a reduced wager and a rather special reward for all their sincere and genuine efforts during the task.
Their reward was throwing a party for a group of over 40 orphans and vulnerable children. And sweet it was, there was even a stilt-walker and a dunking booth. The youngsters had the chance to dunk a few of the housemates into water!
Definitely a fun time was had by all!
Later in the day all the housemates got some hair treatments. Itai got the last few hairs left growing on that egghead of his shaved off, Kev freshened his signature style and Eddie shaved his Mohawk. Good job too, because he looks much better with the new, shiny do!
Friday night was spent quietly. I think all the housemates were in deep contemplation on the events of the last couple of days. The heavy task combined with the fight had them in a bit of a sombre mood.
FLAVIANA
Saturday morning started with the arrival of celeb guest and model Flaviana Matata, former Miss Universe Tanzania 2007. The pretty, bald model won the very first edition of Miss Universe Tanzania in 2007 before going on to compete in the Miss Universe pageant of the same year.
Although she only went as far as the Top 15 and placed sixth in the evening gown section, what made her really remarkable is the fact that she was the first beauty queen to compete with a shaved head.
They sat around chatting and joking for a while, with Kevin monopolising Flaviana.
Later in the day the housemates got to take part in probably the coolest arena game ever, when they got to feel what it must be like to be a circus trapeze artist.
Complete with glittery outfits, leotards, swings, cables and ropes, housemates swung around in the air, giggling as they fell into the safety net. How cool is that!
When they got home, housemates decided to have a bit of a sparring match, putting on boxing gloves and protective gear and boxing out their issues and frustrations.
They ended the evening dancing to the tunes of DJ Voodoo who played the coolest old school tracks. I heard Eddie remarking later that he wouldn’t mind bringing DJ Voodoo to Namibia.
Yeah baby! I second that.
GETTING PERSONAL
Afterwards they sat around chatting, with Emma getting deep as she told housemates her personal story of abandonment.
It all started with Emma speaking about how lucky she is to have understanding parents who support her passion to be an actress and singer. Referring to her stepmother as her mother, Emma told housemates that while she was living with her real mother and younger sister in Namibia, her mom went to the shop one day for cigarettes and simply never came back, leaving five-year old Emma and her one-year old sister alone.
They were picked up by a policeman and it was only their photos in the newspaper that got them safely to their father, who had to fly back from America to fetch them.
Shame. That has got to be tough to live with.
But just bear in mind, at the time – especially with Kev’s sob story last week, on his evil stepmother – that these housemates are currently up for eviction.
Just makes me wonder if housemates are bringing out their past issues in the hopes of getting more votes?
How much of what they say is really true and how much is heavily embellished in the hopes of getting the sympathy vote?
Emma also added that after searching for her half-sister for years and years, the two were finally reunited just a couple of weeks before Emma entered the BBA house.
PRE-EVICTION
Sunday morning started off quietly, with Kev on supercharge as he cleaned the house while housemates slept. Later in the day, housemates received their weekly money pot infringement deductions which got Nkenna all hot and bothered because Mzamo had not lost more money.
Mzamo was fined US$100 for breaking the window, while Nkenna lost US$240 due to mic infringements and not speaking English.
This seems to have sparked a bit of serious girl talk from Nkenna who later advised Mzamo on her drinking habbit.
Sitting on the patio, Nkenna questioned how Mzamo’s parents must feel to see her drinking so much. Saying that some days, Mzamo starts drinking from 09h00 all the way to 23h00.
Nkenna warned that such a habit could easily escalate and become a serious problem in future. Mzamo was quite defensive at first but later explained that she was aware of the fact but that people should not judge her by her behaviour in the house but rather her achievements once she gets back to her real life.
She basically said that the alcohol was free and that being in the Big Brother Africa house was an opportunity of a lifetime. She said she was going to enjoy the experience to the max and get into a more responsible routine once out of the house.
She even cited Whitney Houston as an example of someone who went off the rails but was back better than ever.
Fair enough I guess. Mzamo’s drinking may shock people but she is a very intelligent woman. So, let’s hope she knows what she’s doing.
That’s all for now folks. Remember to vote, vote, vote and watch every minute of the last weeks of Big Brother Africa, live on DStv Channel 198.
