Meat Board welcomes performance agreement
By: CLEMANS MIYANICWETHE Chairperson of Meat Board of Namibia Poena Potgieter says the organisation is happy with the signing of governance and performance agreements with Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry that took place yesterday.
Potgieter told The Namibian that Meat Board was instrumental in finalisation of the agreement.
Minister of Agriculture, Water and Forestry John Mutorwa, said at the signing ceremony that the Meat Board must act honestly, exercise a reasonable degree of care and diligence, must not make improper use of information for direct or indirect gain or cause detriment to the SOE inclusive after its term of office.
“The purpose of the performance agreement is to communicate to the board member the expectations of the Minister,” Mutorwa said.
The performance agreement inclusive of annexures shall be used as the basis for assessing the suitability of the board members’ continued appointment and to assess whether the board member has met the performance expectations applicable to their duties and responsibilities.
“Where are we going, are we (board and the Ministry) going there together and how are we going to get there?” asked Mutorwa who said the agreement is not intended to interfere in any way with the normal common law principles and the normal relationship between him, and the members of the board.
Concerning the board’s strategic plan which forms an integral part of the agreement, the minister said it is important to state that the strategic plan is not cast in stone for the period of five years.
“Signing the performance and governance agreement is seen as a manifestation of our good relationship with the common goal of striving towards the targets set in NDP4 and ultimately attaining the nation’s Vision 2030 goals,” said the minister who urged the two parties to have the interests of the farmers and industry at heart.
