Reigning Miss Universe visits Namibia
By: CLEMANS MIYANICWETHE reigning Miss Universe, Leila Lopes of Angola, visited Namibia on her final African tour.
Lopes visited some West African countries in June as part of her first African tour.
The 26-year-old Lopes arrived in Namibia on Tuesday and will visit Kenya today before going to Mozambique.
During her stay in Windhoek she visited the Hope Village in Greenwell Matongo, Katutura.
According to Esther Swan, Miss Universe’s talent director , Lopes had visited Namibia four times before.
Hope Village was established in 2008 to care for children affected by HIV-AIDS and it currenlty hosts 86 children.
Marietjie de Klerk of Hope Village said it was an honour to receive Miss Universe, who donated N$10 000 to them through the Knowledge Foundation.
According to De Klerk the money will be used to buy school uniforms and stationery for the children next year.
Lopes will hand over her crown in December in Las Vegas, USA. The Angolan was crowned last year in Sao Paolo, Brazil.
