Making a difference in the lives of the poor
By: TANJA BAUSESOMETIMES ordinary Namibians step up and make a difference in the lives of other Namibians. Marcelina Tavarich is such a special person.
She started the Heavenly Kids Project with her own money.
“I have always wanted to get involved with the community,” said Tavarich.
She grew up in a single parent home and felt the need to give back to the less fortunate since an early age.
“People say that the eradication of poverty is the Government’s responsibility but I feel that if we as Namibians all do a bit we can make a big difference,” she added.
She went to the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare and got a list of places of safety and organisations looking after children. Orlindie’s Place of Safety is the first organisation to receive a box full of clothing and because it was Tavarich’s birthday the children were treated to cake and cooldrinks too.
“I wanted to celebrate with the children and make their and my day special,” she said while spending the afternoon playing with the children.
People who want to get involved by donating clothing or blankets can phone Tavarich at 081 751 7108 and make a difference.
