Respect the elderly: Lüderitz mayor

By: LUQMAN CLOETE

“OUR senior citizens should not be misunderstood as a burden.

They are our jewel. We must honour, respect and care for them.”
This was said by the new mayor of Lüderitz, Hambelela Suzan Ndjaleka, at a Christmas party she hosted for the elderly.
Ndjaleka said senior citizens should be honoured for the sacrifices they made for the country generally.
“The current foundations of our society were built by the elderly of today. They, the senior citizens of today, built the social institutions which supported us in our childhood. They also built the economic foundations on which our current production systems are anchored,” said Ndjaleka.
“We therefore owe them everything. Our senior citizens are indeed the sources of our vitality,” she added.
Ndjaleka wished the elders a blessed new year, while thanking the business community for their contributions to the Mayoral Trust.
