Studies Upgrade Needed In North

ALLOW me space in your esteemed newspaper to articulate my opinions on the issue of higher level studies offered by The University Centre for Studies in Namibia (Tucsin).

Higher level studies are offered in Windhoek, but the Tucsin branch in Oshakati only offers studies at Ordinary Level. Students in the north are generally disadvantaged in educational opportunities. Because of Tucsin’s educational reputation there are quite a lot of students who want to enroll for higher level studies with the institution but not all students can afford financially to live in Windhoek to do higher grade studies for a year.

Expand Tucsin by introducing higher level courses to the northern campus. We demand higher level studies, especially in science subjects, accounting and mathematics. Some students want to study engineering at the Unam Ongwediva campus or medicine and pharmacy but with Ordinary Level subjects, admission is not possible.

Tucsin north has a good science and mathematics teacher with many years’ experience. He can possibly lecture both mathematics and physical science at higher level.

There are eight months left before next year, and that should be enough to register Tucsin north as an institute that offers higher level studies.

Tucsin north has no laboratory, but there are a few private schools that have laboratories.

Tucsin can use these labs, at least for a year,  while they build their own. Brilliant students with A and B symbols on Ordinary Level are sitting at home.

Rescue them Tucsin, and take a good example of South Africa. They add an extra year for advanced level after a successful completion of the National Senior Certificate.

You have all it takes; make the northern part of the country happy too. Bring higher level to us in 2014.
