It has been since January and some teachers, since they were appointed November 2012, still have not received their first salary from the Ministry of Education.
Some of us applied in November last year for vacant teaching posts as advertised and we were told in January 2013 that our application forms were misplaced and got lost in the process. We then re-applied in January 2013. We then got the appointment letters early March 2013.
Now that the appointment letters are here, we are moving from one person to another borrowing money to ensure that at least one has bread to provide services to Namibian learners. With the learners-centred-approach one has to be energetic and enthusiastic to teach well.
How will one be strong enough to stand from 08h00-13h20 and again from 15h00-16h00 without pay?
We recently learned that the cheques were not even being processed due to absence of tax numbers that we did not provide on time. But if you scan the government application form there is no provision for one to fill in a tax number.
This system is not reliable at all. Something should be done and should be done quickly.
