In A Free Namibia?

RECENTLY, I witnessed an unemployed mother who used to travel almost six kilometres to fetch water for her household. It was a sad moment for me, and the sad part is that this is not water from the tap but from so called ‘Omufima’ (small pool of water).

I cannot believe this is still happening in our land. People are suffering, and yet we privatise water supply. Is this the independence people fought for? Even our colonial masters made provision for free public water supply pipelines that can be accessible to all members of the public, including poor people.
What has happened is that old public water points set up by the colonial regime were closed by either Namwater or the government’s department of rural water supply. All these organisations are spearheaded by black  Namibians who suffered under colonialism.
One fails to understand whether board members for Namwater and the line ministry cannot see this? Or will they lose their shares if they make provision for unemployed people living under poverty?
This is unacceptable and must be condemned! Water is a basic need. Shame on all of us Namibians if we continue ignoring this! We are ever living in denial of facts.
