It is clear that this is becoming a major issue and it is likely to be completely chaotic for the next couple of years while the municipal parking garage in town is closed for renovations and with the parking being lost where the new FNB development is. What I would be interested to know is how many parking bays/areas do new developments have to provide for the people who will work there, and for their customers? At present it seems that the system must be completely outdated, from an era when there were far fewer residents, cars and drivers, and this urgently needs revision by the municipality.
When a new building goes up the owners generally immediately let a large proportion of the parking spaces to banks and other large concerns and leave little for the public, Wernhill being the notable exception. I am wondering just how much parking in the new FNB centre will be available to the public, and whether they will be providing sufficient space for their staff such that all the rest of the parking that they monopolise in Windhoek would be freed up for other users?
My opinion is that they should be required to build such that they make provision for all their staff and customers.
