Ridiculous Speeding Fine

I RECENTLY spent my December holiday in Namibia, as I have been doing for the past 14 years or so. I love the country and still consider it home even though I moved away many years ago.

I had a fantastic time as usual with friends and family. However the ridiculous speed enforcement procedures sure tried to ruin it for me.
Firstly, the amounts issued are ridiculous and will do nothing but encourage bribery as motorists try to get out of paying the high fines and, secondly, the genius police officers trap you going out of a specific town and the only way you can pay is to turn around and go back to that specific town to pay!
I received a R1 000 fine for going 10km/h over the speed limit nowhere near a built-up area, which I consider crazy. However when I tried to pay it the officers informed me that I would have to turn around and drive almost 40km back to Gobabis to settle the fine.
It appears that one can’t pay in another town, or even worse in these days of electronic conveniences, one can’t pay online either.
My argument that I will not be returning to Namibia until next December fell on deaf ears as they insisted that I either turn around or send someone to Gobabis to pay.
If this is the case, why don’t they set the traps up on the way into the various towns so that one at least has the opportunity to pay on arrival in that town? A friend mentioned that the same thing happened to him on the way out of Swakopmund. I absolutely love Namibia but these fines and inefficient procedures are quite frankly ridiculous.
