The decision to ban all GMOs in Namibia is one I highly appreciate, despite the fact that we have all eaten them anyway, as revealed by the latest tests of our staple food. I have noticed that only a small part of the population seems to have an idea or opinion about GMOs. I, therefore, urge everybody to take some time and get informed, build your own opinion on this topic and stick to it for it for the sake of our children! The US, Canada and numerous other countries have years of experience with this technology and one can easily find out that there are no benefits for the consumer, but only risks. Once released, GMOs spread uncontrollably; they do not increase crops to be harvested, therefore they are totally insignificant in “the fight against hunger’’ and put farmers, who sign contracts with companies like Monsanto, into dependency and poverty.
It is known that GMO crops need substantially more pesticides. The whole GMO hype, the promises of the seed-manufacturers, are a complete lie. Let us not play with life’s basics, the genes. That is for God alone. Respect the creation and mother nature.
Please research this topic. Interesting keywords should be ‘Monsanto’, ‘Vananda Shiva’, ‘Study on NK 603’ to get an insight on one of the most threatening technologies of our time.
