Same Artist Same Song...

THE Namibia Annual Music Awards (NAMAs) is a good platform to give recognition and rewards to the outstanding music makers and performers in the ‘Land of the Brave’, but it is being chaired and controlled by people with big egos whose focus is not at the coordination of the event itself but creating public hype for themselves.

How could an artist like Okocha have been nominated in the awards for best Kizomba 2013 with the same song that he was nominated for best Kizomba 2012 NAMAs?
We are talking about criteria but this is just a sign of the lack of transparency within the event. How can the best group in Namibia, PDK, not make it for a single nomination for their latest album after applying in four different catagories or is it more of a cold war between Tim Ekandjo and John Walenga?
I would like the NAMAs to step up on their selection of the judges. Let us see a mix of well qualified and experienced young people with industry knowledge on that panel together with the so-called industry gurus who are not keeping track with the new sounds and trends of the industry.
We also propose to MTC to outsource the stage, artist and presenters management of the event as well as the technical part especially sound and audio-visual. The NBC’s role and responsibility should be to transmit the footage to the audience.
In addition, I have just realised that the judges mainly choose songs based on groovy beats and not lyrical content. If we talk of building an industry then we must include the award Record Label of the Year, Show Promoter of the Year as well as the Manager of the Year to be voted by the artists themselves as they are the most important role players in the market and without them NAMAs is incomplete.
Lastly, Ekandjo, we already know you. Give others a chance to present the best Male Award of the Year.
