In the club I met several local guys and talked a bit. I took some of their pictures just for fun. Around 01:30 I left. One guy (in blue T shirt, name and Facebook account: Geraldo Panama, I got it during our talk) followed me. In the small street between Fashion Club and Protea Hotel he invited me for a night snack but I said I had to go back to the hotel since I needed to got up early to catch a flight to Johannesburg.
Suddenly, I found someone held my arms from the back and the two started to search my pocket for mobile phones. I shouted for help and managed to run away. I am highly suspicious that another guy I met in the club (in a pink T shirt) is a possible suspect since he tried to take my phones out of my pocket in the club. When I ran back to hotel I realised that my watch was gone. The Hamilton watch, which cost US$1,800, was taken by them.
I then went to the police office next to the Protea Hotel and showed the pictures to a male officer. The officer said he knew the guy in the pink T-shirt. Several minutes later the officer simply disappeared and didn’t do any written recording. A female officer later appeared and said the male officer was no longer there and she won’t take a statement from a drunk victim. But I was not drunk and the drinking had nothing to with robbery. I left the police officer around 02:05.
In the morning I went to the police office again at about 04:50. One male officer was there. After I told him about the incident, he disappeared in exactly the same manner as the first. Later one female officer appeared and didn’t do anything. So far the robbery has even not been recorded by any police officer.
The reason is quite simple: to ignore any criminal events so that the police office and officer will appear to be efficient and clean.
