The capitalistic society is characterised by greed where bourgeoisie exploit the working class majority and the poor. Namibia should not take that path. I refer to the headline in The Namibian newspaper edition of 10 April 2013 ‘New Mercs For Ministers’. Before the powers that be could have given a nod to this elite-luxury scheme, thought could have been given about many Namibians living in huts, informal settlements and villages of this beautiful country.
A caring government should help those in misery to help themselves; those who cannot afford to put bread on their table; those who feed at the dumpsites and young people who cannot pursue further studies due to financial constraints. If the nation cannot help the poor who are in the majority to meet their basic needs and enjoy the fruits of our hard won independence, it should not build empires for the few.
This is a critical time in the history of our nation, thus there is no need for our leaders to live like kings and queens. Comrade ministers, turn down this offer since the time is not right. Your are the servants of this nation. You should serve Namibia and her people with integrity and humility. The time will come but not now!
