Why Now?

THE Minister of Education, Abraham Iyambo, recently announced that his Ministry will seriously look into the issue of school patrons as a matter of urgency, apparently because it causes friction and division among the students /scholars.

With all due respect Minister Iyambo, we understand your sentiments with the predicament created at the Haihambo School Primary School. However, there were already insults when Rally for Democracy and Progress leader Hidipo Hamutenya donated fence material to the school. Yet none of our leadership tried to reprimand the Swapo members and instead allowed them to insult opponents as they wished. If only we had reacted earlier then things like this could have been avoided.
As for now all Namibians are in agreement, without any objection, to names allocated to schools such as Immanuel Shifidi, Mokganedi Thlabanello, Moses Garoeb, Hage Geingob, Nahas Angula and the list goes on.
Why should naming a member of an opposition party as patron of this school become a bone of contention?
What lessons can we as Namibians learn from this stupidity?
We must realise that we are all Namibians, and must learn to tolerate and  accommodate each as brothers and sisters. Otherwise we will perish together as fools.
