Lost Faith In Minister

AS A parent of a government primary school learner, I have decided to make the ongoing teachers’ strike my business.

Firstly, our esteemed ministers’ children and grandchildren attend private schools while my child must roam the dirty streets of Katutura due to teachers that are on strike.
It makes one wonder if it is why the ministers simply didn’t care how long this strike dragged on? Ever since this dilemma started I have been following the news and the newspapers religiously since I wanted to stay updated on any progress being made in getting my child back to school and learning.
I have been listening to public figures ranting and raving about illegal strikes, court orders, and teachers being threatened to go back to classes. In the midst of all this, I was asking myself where the minister of education was. He is generally a true leader where education was concerned; he spoke openly and with so much passion about education with no fear whatsoever, or so I thought until I heard over the news that he went to South Africa and left the strike and our children on the streets.Clearly it seems you have lost your focus and vision in what your role is in education. As a parent I have lost faith in you, Abraham Iyambo. The least you could do was listen to the cries of your teachers, to show empathy even if you knew you would not meet all their demands.
The saddest part of all this is our children’s education seems to be no one’s priority! I sympathise with the teachers because outside the classrooms, they are parents, husbands and wives and every day life is expensive for them with the little money they get.
