Bad Language

WHATEVER else the SPYL [Swapo Party Youth League] is good at nowadays, one thing it cannot do well is communicate in a clear language, and most certainly not language which is presumed as honest.

Why they changed their style to adopt a pseudo-academic language remains their secret but one thing is certain: it’s not going to get them anywhere except from causing fatigue and rendering their communication artificial. At this stage, while they are still fluctuating between cheerleading and posing as public intellectuals, the SPYL will do well to learn that going out of your way to sound academic whenever you open your mouth in public, is a shortcut to political demise – especially in Namibia.
If the SPYL is serious about the stated ideals of Swapo, they will make a u-turn today and observe the divine character of Swapo before independence that made it so effective: an honest collective who felt the pain of the reality on the ground and intervened with a clear, honest language which informs and inspires immediately.
The new (post-independence) language of arrogance, indifference and hindrance is an evil habit amongst party seniors which should not be emulated by the SPYL.
