I keep wondering as I read the daily reports of corruption and abuse of state funds whether our President and his cabinet are waiting for an ‘Arab-spring’ before they take action. It is a situation that escalates everyday and the perpetrators are the very people we voted into power.
I appeal to all my fellow Namibians to reflect back on the election-campaign promises that have been repeated since independence and ask ourselves, has the Swapo government really delivered?
When I go to the polls this time round, I no longer want to hear empty promises. Actions speak louder than words.
I am a statistic of the corruption - let me remind Mr President and Swapo - I cannot eat ‘peace, promises, manifestos and investigations’. I need to eat food, I need a job, I need to educate my children and have access to proper health facilities.
I have lost faith in a President who can barely control his own ministers and permanent secretaries, never mind run a whole country. I want a leader who put people into power who will take Namibia forward and really care about growing the economy and keep everyone in mind.
We the people put you into power. We have the right to hold you accountable and question you.
As for the Anti-Corruption Commission, I do not know why you are even in existence, cases going as far back as the early 2000s (ODC, Avid) are still outstanding and you want to tell us you are doing your job?
As a taxpayer, I really want to see you handle the very big cases about the disappearance of public funds. Solve just one and maybe, just maybe, I might believe you are worth your salt.
