They are both an embarrassment and a disgrace to the true cause and fight of the Namibian youth. SPYL cannot and should not advocate for radicalism and militancy. What exactly, especially in today’s context does Amupanda mean by being radical and militant and towards who in particular? Is it to our parents (Swapo or to its leaders) or to whom exactly? He needs to be specific in this regard. What message is he sending to the youth and to our seniors?
It is only through loyalty to nation, hard and teamwork that the Namibian youth and people achieve their goals. Radicalism and being militant invites failure and isolation from all peaceful and progressive citizens. The government will respect and support any legal entities that are mature enough and peaceful in their advocacy for social development with due respect to others.
SPYL’s selection for Swapo vice president and the three retired generals without the due consultation and approval from its nation-wide jurisdiction or constituency was totally misplaced and misguided. Whatever happened to guided-democracy that was preached earlier? You cannot say one thing today and change later to please others. This is a sign of fear and favour.
A democratic process (a SPYL convention or any legally constituted platform) was supposed to have taken place within the SPYL nation-wide structures to nominate and select a candidate(s) to represent the SPYL’s broad interests and aspiration onto the highest organ of the Swapo Party.
The presence of these two individuals will continue to cause deep divisions and hatred among the youth. SPYL needs leaders who respect their elders and are able to critically read and analyse the situation to the benefit of their members. It further seems and without the mandate of their jurisdiction, that these two individuals are using the SPYL for their own personal aspirations and unjustified activities.
In conclusion, Hage Geingob’s re-election is an opportunity for change for all progressive institutions in Namibia.
Ngurare and Amupanda, please call a press conference to announce your way out of the SPYL.
