The Cost Of Political Connections

THE Ministry of Lands and Resettlement cites overlapping of the conservancy and the Small Scale Farms Project that was supposed to start in the Caprivi’s Makanga, Sibinda, Masida and Malengalenga areas as among other reasons why the project has not started.

This just shows how this Ministry is incompetent and symbolises how our government business is in shambles because they are the ones who should map the land on which national projects and conservancies are based. Were they just approving everything and they don’t know where one starts and where one ends? Shame. We are talking about the privileged receiving land quickly but tomorrow we will be talking about conflicts on land not between regions or people from different tribal clans but we will be witnessing conflicts among villagers and between individuals simply because the ministry is failing to map land boundaries in the country. They are also very slow in doing their work.
A simple thing of bringing people together and reaching compromises on land boundaries takes 10 years. There are no complex issues on that project but the lax conduct of doing business in our government is leading to poverty among our people as is the case with this project. One wonders if that ministry has a minister, a deputy, permanent secretary, directors and other employees.
All they are doing is to strategically allocate resettlement farms among themselves and those who are connected to them. The people in this area mentioned above have no political connections. All they need is to make a living from their own land.
