If Peace Is So Important Why Try To Cause War?

By: German Speaker Via e-mail Note: This letter has been edited - Ed

MR Kaaronda, as you have stated yourself, is internal peace in a country most important. So why do you and some comrades of yours try to cause war?

The Germans who came into this country at the beginning of the century came as young idealists with nothing much to bring along but knowledge, hard work and loyalty to a country that they have since called their home. NOTHING was given to them for free! Not even farms! They had to pay a price that was acceptable then. Many young farmers’ wives have worked in the towns to support the family so that the farmers could repay loans or pay for development on these farms. Now, look at many farms, that today are in the hands of young, new farmers who were given the land they stay on for free! Most of the farms (there are exceptions!) are in a desolate, unproductive state.
Thanks to many Germans we have the opportunity to do our shopping in clean, modern stores. We have butchers, bakers, doctors, optometrists, veterinarians, architects, engineers, motor mechanics, pharmacists etc, etc, … and the list is much longer.
Mr Kaaronda, after the second, third or fourth generation in this country, we German descendants don’t call ourselves Germans any more. We are (German-speaking) Namibians with all the rights and duties of all Namibians whose forefathers also came from somewhere else in the world.
Another fact all over the world is that political parties change at the top regularly. This is natural and there is nothing wrong with it. People vote for a certain party after believing their promises usually given during election campaigns. Then, after a few years they realise that not all or even very few promises have been kept and they are not happy with some situations. So it is natural to try another party. If you don’t like one type of food, you will also try another one! Mr Kaaronda, Swapo will not rule forever! Please face this fact! Neither will RDP, DTA, UDF or new parties to come. Even the Communist regimes fell some years ago. The more educated a nation gets, the more critical its inhabitants get, because they get more informed and see what happens in other countries. No politician is without faults and no politician is irreplaceable. Life goes on.
