As a matter of fact, Kalkfeld is my birthplace and I thought that
it would be a good idea to stop over.
What I did not know, is that the place had changed a lot and I
came across alien forces roaming the streets.
I wanted a cold beer very badly, so I asked an old friend of
mine where we could get some beer.
He directed me to a place, which seemed to me to be a popular
tavern.
We bought two beers, after finding a place in the corner of the
bar.
I asked him about new developments and there were none.
I asked him "why"? As he was about to explain, my eyes wandered
all over the place and to my shock and disbelief, I saw some guys
holding their drinks between their legs and pangas, assegais,
bicycle chains, knobkerries, you name it, beside them on the
floor.
I asked my friend about this and the only response I got from
him is that this place is called Kaap/Cape and not Kalkfeld as I
used to know it.
I asked him how the police go about combating crime or how they
prevent such dangerous weapons to be carried around publicly and
being carried into entertainment centres? All I could get from him
was that the police were powerless to protect those within their
jurisdiction.
I also asked how he coped with life in an awkward place like
this, but all his responses to me sounded funny.
Only the fittest survive.
It gave me a cold chill down my spine.
I would like to suggest to the Police force at Kalkfeld to
deploy their feared Special Field Force members to the place to
maintain law and order or the owners of the shebeens should employ
security officers to safeguard their places to see to it that any
weapon that is a threat to the lives of innocent and vulnerable
people should not be tolerated in their places.
Instead of hunting game for trophies or their products, people
are hunting each other.
They are bloodthirsty.
I would like to urge all the people residing at Kalkfeld to stop
their barbaric acts and start living like civilised citizens of the
country of the brave.
Last but not least.
Don't take the law into your own hands, please let the law
enforcement agencies prevent and combat crime to the best of their
abilities with your assistance as the law-abiding citizens.
We want a crime-free Namibia in order to boost our tourist
industry and to attract international investors for the sake of the
country's economy.
Please let peace, justice and stability in Namibia prevail, that
is what democracy is all about.
