The new President to-be, following a stage-managed party election,

is not only the nominee of, and an indistinguishable policy

look-alike of, the previous, he is also an indistinguishable

physical clone of the previous.

He is also a nonentity - who can remember any noteworthy quote

from him? He refused to give interviews to the press, firstly of

course because the boss had forbidden him, and promised him the

job, but he would have had nothing to say in any event.

 

However, the sine qua non of a high Namibian office-holder is a

screaming motor-cycle escort, which he has already been provided

with.

 

So this is the virtual 4th term.

 

Who can doubt that the Father of the Nation will be offered a

comfortable rent-free permanent guest apartment in the new State

House, the more easy for passing on instructions? When the

charismatic founding Father is replaced by a faceless bureaucrat,

and members of the administration are left to do their own thing,

stagnation, mediocrity and corruption thrive.
