NBC Loses Focus
KINDLY allow me space in your newspaper to express my concern about our national television broadcaster.
I have noticed that NBC TV is slowly but surely losing focus of the
programme contents.
The other night I was watching the investigative programme Open
File, only to discover that the entire programme was dedicated to
Mothers Day.
The next day I eagerly awaited the start of the magazine
programme Tutaleni, and discovered it was also about Mothers
Day.
Programmes are defined by the type of stories they carry and it
is rather sad to note that the stories that are carried in the news
cannot be classified as news stories.
The same goes for the contents of the Good Morning Namibia
programme.
It is a repetition of old news and an incoherent mix.
The old saying "old news is no news" apparently does not apply
to the NBC.
I am almost certain that the viewer figures for the news has
dropped drastically.
Personally I look forward to the daily newspapers and never miss
an edition if I can help it.
It is quite evident that the NBC editors, reporters and
journalists cannot distinguish between news, investigative,
magazine and other programme matter.
Help, such as training or professional advice, is a
solution.
