City Council Should Go!

PLEASE allow me space in your newspaper to react to the current floods that are slowly and surely destroying Windhoek, I hope due to its urgency you will publish it now.

Firstly let me comment on your newspaper for continuously updating

us on the rainy destructive conditions in Windhoek and around the

country, keep it up!

I have lost every faith I had for the current city council

because of their handling of this situation, and in my own view,

the Mayor and his entire council should do us a four and

resign!

Why?

All the years they have been sitting in the Council what have

they been doing while the city was deteriorating in a lot of

areas.

But most of all no provision was made to cater for this kind of

disaster.

We have a whole capital city with rivers running freely between

the various suburbs threatening the lives of the citizens and their

properties.

The few bridges that we have and even those built recently have

now been washed away, what is going on?

The last few years have seen a decline in the quality of roads

within Windhoek and other services and what did the Council to

about this?

They removed the then experienced CEO, Hailulu, who helped

transform Windhoek from a useless colonial city into a city that

represents a new Namibia.

Hailulu, himself a protege of the liberation struggle, was

believed to have fallen out with Council because he did not share

in their corruption schemes.

So they then replaced Hailulu with their very own product,

Shipanga who was at that time not fit enough to be at that

level.

While Shipanga was in the office, during his absence Hafeni

Nghinamwaami was acting.

For those of you who don't know this man, he was accused of

irregularities within the Municipality.

How in the world can the Council put an accused person in such a

strategic position? Shikongo and his team don't want to leave the

City Council because they risk being exposed.

I am sure Shikongo is busy looking for his loyalists who will

protect his own interests.

This should, however, be a wake up call to the higher

authorities that they should in future promote people with the

ability to do a job.

While people are calling for the President to retire from active

politics, a sentiment I do not share in, I am calling for the Mayor

and his Council to go because they have served enough terms.

Let someone else with new ideas come in and take the city

further.

Over ten years of office is too much and the side effects are

surely showing now.

Further, I wish to request the President to investigate the City

of Windhoek through a commission of inquiry .
