I find Mr Mietzner's inference that the journalist is trying to
please certain lodges insulting.
The fact of the matter is that Namibian adults must pay a N$40
per day visitor's fee to enter NWR parks.
Last Sunday, me and two friends were horrified to have to pay
this amount to enter Gross Barmen.
After paying the day fee of N$40, car entry of N$10, eating at
the restaurant for approx.
N$80 and having a 'free' swim in the hot pool, the outing had
cost us N$130 - not to mention the petrol to get there.
I can assure Mr Mietzner that I won't undertake another visit to
Gross Barmen in a hurry.
How many Namibians will be able to afford the day entry fee of
N$40, even if they do take along a picnic? The end result will be
that NWR parks will become the reserve of tourists and a select few
Namibians.
NWR is in effect putting a Sunday outing to one of their parks
way out of the price-range of the average Namibian.
Good bye week-end outings.
