NUNW Must Get Its Members Up To Scratch

I AM hereby expressing my concern to the NUNW about one of its affiliates, and ask it to act on this matter - otherwise workers will really suffer.

It is the union that deals with workers in construction.

Its leadership needs to be changed otherwise this union is not

doing anything to help these workers.

Let me give an example: Walvis Bay workers have no one to help

them.

In Keetmanshoop and Swakopmund, even there is a person there; it

seems there is no one.

Please act on behalf of the workers and talk to the leadership

of this union.

It seems like this union is just making money out of workers and

does nothing about their problems.

I have personally never heard of this union signing agreements,

solving problems or else they are pretending things are fine - but

workers are really suffering.

When I did some research, I found out that many workers do not

even know their general secretary or president.

What is the NUNW really doing if not making sure that all the

affiliates are in order? If the union is having problems, why does

the NUNW not act seriously to ensure that this union is working

properly? I also understand that since this union had a congress,

the new leadership never went to the Labour Commissioner to change

the old leadership.

Please, the NUNW must do something about this union.

The union has no educator, the union has one car - can you

believe that? If the NUNW does not act, we will take this matter to

the Ministry of Labour.

Mr Risto Kapenda, as you are a president of the federation, have

a meeting with your affiliates and be straightforward - this is

shameful for the Republic of Namibia.

We hear all the time talk in the media about unions, but you are

not polishing these unions.

The NUNW must act on this matter very urgently.
