SPCA Fun Day a family affair
SPCA Fun Day
DOG lovers were in fine spirits on Sunday when more than 60 tail-wagging participants took part in the much-anticipated SPCA Fun Day, which was held at the Windhoek German Shepherd Dog Club.
A warm winter’s day added to a festive family outdoor atmosphere, which saw dogs and their owners participate in several enjoy- able activities, with lots of canine socialising and prizes aplenty.
A hardworking organis- ing committee, together with the Namibian rep- resentative of Hill’s Pet Products, Christiane Hass, have revived the Fun Day after a lapse of many years, and were successful in rais- ing sponsorships and prizes with an estimated value of N$55 000, with everyone being a winner on the day.
These included some of the big raffle prizes such as a two-night stay in the Kalahari Sands, getaways to Okutala African Quest and Kunene River Lodge, plus vouchers, pet acces- sories, jewellery, and Hill’s pet hampers galore being given away.
Dogs in all shapes, sizes and breeds turned up (on leashes) and were paraded before a panel of judges, competing for a spot in cat- egoriessuchasbest-dressed dog, best trick, oldest dog, best breed, you name it.
From the tiniest Toy Pom to the fluffiest white Standard Poodle, the slinki- est Greyhound, the busy Border Collie and an as- sortment of ‘pavement spe- cials’, they were all there.
“The day was a roaring success, and thanks to all who assisted in organis- ing this wonderful Dog Fun Day, I am sure it was enjoyed by everyone who attended,” said Christiane.
“A special word of thanks goes out to to all our spon- sors for their amazing con- tributions without which, this Fun Day would not have been possible.”
It was also mentioned that the organisers would like to see the Fun Day become an annual event, and that through raffle ticks sold, entries and cake sales on Sunday, the Fun Day com- mittee raised N$10 000, which will be handed over to the SPCA.
