ASIAN INSPIRED … The Ashlee Designs line is oriental, soft and feminine.
Finest Fashion at the African Renaissance Show
Rukee Kaakunga
A relatively small crowd braved the cold to attend the African Fashion Renaissance fashion show which was held at the Protea Hotel Thuringerhof last Friday. Five young designers made the line-up for the fashion show, which also doubled as a competition on whose line featured the most creative and unique designs.
Ashlee Designs collection was a sight to behold. An array of cocktail dresses, sheer blouses and skirts in all silhouettes. The young designer, who hails from Tsumeb, draws inspiration from Asian and Italian fashion, this is very evident in the oriental and meticulous tailoring seen in the collection. Somewhat of a disappointment is the fact that the collection is dominated by two colours, black and blue with minimal hints of red.

Eva Miarka, who is based in Europe, showcased her truly international brand of designs. She plays around with fabrics and colours and this results in interesting products. Indian tunics and pants in bright colours as well as evening dresses in equally bright hues.

Immanuel Tsadago Garoeb once again thrilled the crowd with his HOT collection. Peachy pastels, reds and whites are the colours that Tsadago chose to reign in the new season with. He definitely aims to empower whoever wears his garments as they are simply out of this world.

The men’s line is not meant for the modest. Consisting mainly of tight fitting vests and shorts. Tsadago also has a variety of underwear for men, which probably makes him the first Namibian designer to do so. He could have spent more time with the models though, as some of the underwear was not suitably fitted. Apart from the few glitches, Garoeb managed to impress the judges, taking home the main prize.

The open competition for the best designer was a platform for new and emerging designers who wanted to launch a new collection, along with the opportunity to showcase their work.
