POLL
What do you think of the renaming and addition of regions and constituencies?

A Filthy News Week
Zimbabwe's election isn't the only good thing that happened in the world this week.
Morgan Tsvangirai, prime minister and leader of the Movement for Democratic Change predicted his party would win "quite resoundingly". "This is a very historic moment for all of us," he said. Doesn't he just sound like a Namibian opposition politician?
“So far, so good, said Robert Mugabe as polls opened on Wednesday morning. Asked whether he was nervous about the outcome, he replied with a laugh: "No, no, no, I've gone past that. “At 89?" Clearly a confident man. I would be too if I was a despot who had roughly 30 years of experience in 'running' elections. This is the man who lost the previous elections but is sitting plum in power. Who wouldn't be confident if you boasted those credentials?
Just a reminder to Moses Ndjarakana: (apparently) 6,4 million voters; one voting day!
But there's another old man who threatens to take our Bob's place in the news.
Pink Pope
I never thought I'd live to see the day when a Pope will utter something sensible.
Pope Francis said on Monday he wouldn't judge priests for their sexual orientation in a news conference as he returned from his first foreign trip.
"If someone is gay and he searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?" Francis asked. His predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI, signed a document in 2005 that said men with deep-rooted homosexual tendencies should not be priests. Francis said gay clergymen should be forgiven and their sins forgotten. I bet Bob Mugabe and a few other African leaders rolled their eyes and flipped their wrists when they heard that news. So, is the Catholic church turning pink? I don't think so but this acknowledgement that the Catholic church isn't all that is welcome but still not good enough.
What about the thousands of victims fondled by predatory Catholic priests, the role of women in the church, the reality of divorce and most importantly; contraceptives, including condoms? Hopefully Francis will help to take his church's head out of the sand on these issues.
Licence to bill
Another abomination of biblical proportions was NBC's fresh TV licence renewal drive as reported by them this week. Can't these guys just stop? I'm sick of the fact that NBC leeches on a law that is so grossly unfair. The law punishes everyone who has a TV with the licence fee. The law doesn't force NBC to produce, commission and broadcast quality informative and entertaining programmes and there is no clear indication from NBC that they will do that soon.
Murderous men
Athletics Namibia this week announced a team of six athletes to represent the country at the upcoming IAAF World Championships in Russia from 10 to 18 August. The team consists of 400m female athlete Tjipekapora Herunga and 200m male sprinter Hitjivirue Kaanjuka, while female marathon runners Helalia Johannes, Beata Naigambo, Alina Armas and Nangula Leena Ekandjo have also qualified to compete at the global athletics extravaganza. Five women! One man? Is it because rape, assault and murder aren't items at the world athletics champs? If they were, I bet Namibia would have hundreds, maybe even thousands of men qualifying and win medals by the lorry load. Ready to winning and not just take part, complete with blood dripping off our hands as we line up.
Just a small reminder for Sebastian Ndeitunga; Lazarus Shaduka is still footloose and fancy free...
Land of lavishness
It's still possible for one person, working in a supposed not-for-profit publicly funded institution to be paid almost N$2 million a year. Ja, the Polytechnic of Namibia's overlord, Tjama Tjivikua is paid that amount, contrary to the State Owned Enterprises Governing Council's rules and common sense. The nauseating lavish salaries of the bigwigs of public entities is, quite frankly, nauseating. I don't really want to use the “there are so many hungry and unemployed people in this country” but I can argue that the Polytechnic only recently allowed a union to represent their staff. Also, the institution isn't Namibian academics' first name on the job hunters list.
And in other news: Arsene Wenger is still not in an asylum and continues to make an ass of himself in public; the Brave Warriors are still shit and so is living in Namibia's capital city. Meanwhile, doctors are starting to prescribe large amounts of cannabis to their patients... and themselves. Shit's just got real!
