‘Now that I can talk about it’ premieres at Warehouse Theatre tonight

OYO’sTheir newest film, ‘Now that I can talk about it’, produced and directed by Philippe Talavera centres around Sophie (Sharisa Kakololo), who lives in Windhoek. During the week, she stays at the school hostel.

That weekend, her mum, Monica (Anna Louw), asked her to come and look after her little brother (Keana Willemse), as she has to attend a church gathering. Michael (George Kalitere), Sophie’s boyfriend, comes around. Then Sophie’s step-dad, Tomas (Dawie Engelbrecht), arrives and finds her with Michael and her life is about to change forever.

This production is an all-Namibian star production, introducing three talented Namibian young actors, Sharisa Kakololo, George Kalitere and Sophy Markus.

This film is rated 16 as it contains scenes of violence. “Gender-based violence is unfortunately a reality in Namibia and one cannot talk about gender-based violence without touching at the violent side of the story,” says Talavera.

“Therefore the film is not suitable for a younger audience. However we hope this film will help us reflect on our society – what prompts us to be violent? What alternatives could we find? How does it affect the lives of all those around us?”

Ombetja Yehinga Organisation (OYO) is a Namibian Trust aimed at creating social awareness among young people using arts, to target social issues such as HIV prevention, sexual health, alcohol and drug abuse, stigma and discrimination through writing, drama, dance, music, and the visual arts.

‘Now that I can talk about it’ premieres at the Warehouse Theatre tonight at 18h30 for 19h00. Entrance is free of charge (donations welcomed).
