Warriors were tame, says Mannetti

SECOND BEST... Da Costa Angula's Brave Warriors were outfought by Antonio Belito's Mozambique for the second successive match.
NAMIBIA were comprehensively outplayed by Mozambique on Sunday in Maputo and now face a difficult task of qualifying for the 2014 African Nations Championships (Chan), according to coach Ricardo Mannetti.
Mannetti conceded that his side gave by far their worst showing in recent times when they were thrashed 3-0 by the ‘Mambas’ in the first leg qualifier on Sunday.
The coach added that the Brave Warriors will be under intense pressure to overturn the result in the return leg on Saturday if they are to salvage the tie.
“I am so disappointed by the team’s performance. We have worked so hard on tactics all this time and nothing came off to be honest.
Mozambique were better than us with and without the ball. Mozambique pressurised us effectively and dominated throughout,” said Mannetti. He said his charges struggled to get into the game from the onset and that after conceding a penalty just before halftime, which was duly converted by defender Almiro Lobo, they could not contain the hosts.
“After that halftime score, it was even tougher for our boys as Mozambique smelled blood and pushed and pushed. Their ball possession was better and their ball winning mentality was excellent as well,” said Mannetti.
The result means that the Brave Warriors have to win the return leg by four clear goals. The match, which will be the third successive meeting between the two sides, will be staged at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.
“The score-line in Maputo now puts the team in a much difficult situation and we now have to work extra hard and become more aggressive and respect the tactics more.
It was a bad day at the office in Maputo but now we have to look forward and try to do the best of what we can,” he said.
However, Mannetti singled out Black Africa striker Jerome Louis for an admirable performance. “Jerome was by far our best player in Maputo. His maturity was exceptional and his shots at goal were purposeful but it was just not his day to score for us. Saturday in Windhoek will have to be better from us,” Mannetti said.
