Namupala, Haitope win final Victory Races

Reonard Namupala and Lavinia Haitope won the Elite Men and Women’s categories at the final leg of the 2013 Old Mutual Victory Races in Windhoek on Saturday.
Namupala completed the 21km half marathon in one hour five minutes 20 seconds, to finish nine seconds ahead of Johannes Naitembu, while Frans Hosea came third another second behind in 1:05:30.
Haitope was a comfortable winner of the Elite Women’s category winning in a time of 1:11:39, with Anna Amutoko coming second in 1:12:57 and Sarty Eshitile third in 1:16:40.
The race saw a record turnout as more than 1 500 participants turned up from all over Namibia.
Veilo Severen won the Junior Male category in 1:08:19, with Kornelius Nghilyeendele second in 1:08:31 and Johannes Jossop third in 1:12:06.
Shinowene Shilongo won the Junior Female category in 1:25:28, with Rauna Lukas second in 1:29:27 and Ndapandula Nghinaunye third in 1:30:37. Jerobeam Amunjoko won the Veteran Men’s category in 1:14:03, with Mathias Mutota second in 1:16:10 and Erasmus Frans third in 1:22:22.
Sieglinde Gontes won the Veteran Women’s category in 1:39:21, with Nadine Agnew second in 1:39:36 and Sharon Schafer third in 1:51:20.
In total 4154 athletes took part in the 2013 Old Mutual Victory Race Series.
The overall series winners will be announced on August 13 at a breakfast function, which will be held at Mutual Tower in Windhoek.
It was the 13th consecutive year that the series had been held, with Old Mutual investing N$500 000 towards the series this year, while other sponsors like Coca-Cola, Mutual & Federal, Marathon Sugar, Business Connexion and Schoemans also contributed in cash and kind.
