Life’s ups and downs are just that... Life! We get knocked around, tested and sometimes the scars under the surface don’t heal right. The human psyche is incredibly resilient, and can take its fair share of knocks, but too many knocks pent up inside have a serious effect on ones emotional state.
It’s been proven that talking to someone about the issues bothering you can help to alleviate that crush of the universe on your spirit. We all have our own way of coping with trauma, some people turn to drugs and alcohol that are more detrimental to your situation. Speaking to someone, whether a friend, family member or counselor could help ease your troubles, however some people, keep it all to themselves.

Do you confide in your friends and family, seek professional counseling or do you just bottle it up?

The Weekender took to Facebook to find out...

Jehency Eduardo Tauya

I go to a family member who I really trust because keeping it to myself will still be affecting me. I remember going through this and it totally drove away my concentration in class, honestly the world seemed so new to me.

Aristides Are Sambiliye

I am more likely to go to a friend, but if the right family member is there at that time...

Ndeshipanda SB Shaanika

I’ll speak to my family because they know me better than anybody else and I trust them more than I trust a counsellor and drinking will just make matters worse.

Innocent Faith Cencil Fransy

I sometimes bottle it up, but when I realise that I can’t handle it anymore, I talk to someone I trust.

Frans Young Bob Silvanus

Speak to my family so that they can lend me their helping hand, and if things aren’t materialising, I would seek professional counseling.

Kate Hoeses

I normally speak to my family and ask for strength and courage from God and pray to overcome the situation. This actually helps me a lot. I do not believe in sharing my problems with outsiders unless it will be a life threatening situation, then I would seek proffessional counseling.

ReadyMax Debayo Nakanyala

Bottle it up.

Smooth Lukas Kaleiko

I’m a man of my own, I like facing everything coming my way myself. You know sometimes facing some sort of challenges and letting someone know might just worsen the situation unless it’s really critical then I can talk to a friend.

E.O. Aron

To avoid my problems will affect my family as well, so I go for counseling or talk to my best friend.

Elkan Andreas

Speak to family because my family will understand me better than everyone. On top of that, my family care about me and they will try their best to rescue me.

Terrence Fliperizer Geingob

Bottle it up. Or keep drinking, hoping to forget.

Richie Mutendere

All problems can’t be sorted the same way, each one is a unique experience and you have to consider your options to sort out the issue.

Erastus Nkhula Paulus

If it needs a professional opinion then counseling would be the best option.

Mindu Kauraisa

I seek guidance from God... With Him I’m sorted, Simple!

Mary Nunu Lilly

Speak to God.

KB Kboz Hosea

Going for advice is the best way to overcome such a thing. I usually go to my sister for advice. She’s older than me and she knows a lot about life.

Tuhafeni Theo Nghipumbwa

I bottle it up, because other people have their own problems already and I don’t want to pile up more problems for them.

Angula DiCaprio

Friends are best counsellors. Some of them have gone through similar experiences and they help you to get through things.

Simaneka YaIvali

I am close with my mom and she is the first person I talk to whenever something bothers me. Thank God, she can keep a secret!

Whatever you decide, seek help, any kind that’s available to you. You owe it to yourself to make your life happy, which you can’t do with a world on your shoulders, it’ll just weigh down your heart, spirit and life.
