Pokello
‘The Chase’ is over for queen of swagger Pokello and lively Bassey
Rukee Kaakunga
Sunday saw Africa bid farewell to two of the most colourful housemates in BBA’s ‘The Chase’, when Pokello and Bassey got the boot. Pokello, who had survived the eviction gallows for a record six weeks before she eventually ran out of luck, was certainly a name that many did not expect to hear as an evictee. Bassey on the other hand, joined several housemates whose demise came as a direct result of a Head of House swap. It’s quite safe to say both Chase mates had their share of fans who did not
Bassey

What went through your mind as you left the house on Sunday?

I thought Chai! My Chase has ended and I didn’t even get to win the money.

You were quite the lively character in the house, do you feel that Africa made a mistake by not keeping you in the house?

I do feel that Africa should have voted for me yes, and even if you look on the internet, people are saying that it was a mistake that I left.

We have had quite a few murmurs and speculations on your sexuality, tell me Bassey, are you gay?

No, no. I am not gay. I am straight as a lion. I mean I even liked Maria from the get go but I guess I wasn’t her type so that didn’t work out.

What did you think about the whole Emerald house fiasco, did it ruffle some feathers among original housemates?

I didn’t believe it and I even said it in the diary room. Unfortunately Dillish believes it. People don’t like the new housemates, they couldn’t even wait to nominate them.

What did you think of the Namibian girls, Maria and Dillish?

If that’s how Namibians are, then Namibian women are very pretty.

Who do you think will most likely win the money?

Melvin. He is my friend and I knew from the beginning that he would win.

You were quite the neat freak in the house, do you think you would have coped for long in the merged house?

I don’t think I would have survived, I would have just started to scream out.

Where to from here?

I am planning to move to Nigeria to do movies there. Also look forward to the Michael Bonny Bassey show, it will definitely continue.

Pokello

You were saved six times before your eventual exit, did any part of you ever think that you would stay to the end?

I never got comfortable. Every eviction was nerve wracking and although I was confident Africa would save me, I was never over confident.

You fought off the advances of Elikem for quite a while because of your boyfriend on the outside, but eventually succumbed. Did you later forget about your boyfriend?

There were already cracks in that relationship and I started seeing them during my stay in the Big Brother house. I saw that there was no future for that relationship.

How many pairs of shoes do you own?

The Zimbabwean media did an official count in November 2011 and they stood at 200 pairs at the time. Right now I would say I have about 280 pairs. I am really addicted to shoes.

How excited were you on hearing about your son’s soccer trials?

I almost broke down when I heard the news, I am very excited for him. I didn’t expect him to go for trials so early but I guess news of his talent travelled very fast.

Do you think people saw enough of you in the house not to judge you based on your sex tape?

In the beginning, I thought it would work against me especially after Huddah, who had nude pictures out there, was evicted so soon. But the more I was saved the more I realised it wasn’t going to affect my game. I am certain that people have seen that the sex tape doesn’t define me, what type of woman I am or what type of mother I am.
