Keetmans traffic cop faces corruption charge
Luqman Cloete
THE Roads Authority’s investigation division has recommended to the Keetmanshoop Town Council to pass on a case implicating traffic cop Milly Cloete in an allegedly irregular roadworthy certification to the Anti-Corruption Commission.
The recommendation, of which The Namibian has seen a copy, followed an investigation into allegations that Cloete has certified two trucks as roadworthy without conducting a physical inspection on the vehicles.
The RA investigation found that Cloete willfully and/ or negligently certified the vehicles as roadworthy while they were not presented for roadworthy inspections.
Cloete allegedly committed the offense while on duty at the Keetmanshoop National Traffic Information System (NaTIS) office.
Roads Authority is responsible for NaTIS, a subdivision of Transport Information and Regulatory Services, which manages 32 registering authorities (NaTIS offices) countrywide. Most NaTIS offices are managed through local authorities.
RA further recommended to council to consider disciplinary charges against Cloete, and to suspend all her user rights pending the outcome of the matter. The roadworthy certification done by Cloete should also be null and void, the investigation report recommended.
