Kay Cowley’s ‘Earth Love Crazy’ opens at NBIC tomorrow
The Namibia Business Innovation Centre (NBIC) will be showcasing well known Namibian artist Kay Cowley’s latest art exhibition, ‘Earth Love Crazy’. The exhibition consists of past and present paintings, prints and earthshrines and opens tomorrow at 17h00 at 1 and 3 Gluck Street in Windhoek West, running until 31 October.
The body of work will focus on oil paintings that depict elements of nature and fertility, some influenced by abstract and social issues facing Namibian women.
The prints will include the ‘Wild Women’ series comprising of black and white prints and silkscreens inspired by pop art. Other artworks will depict earth goddesses, elements of creation and a celebration of the diversity of women. The earthshrines are Cowley’s unique sand art revering nature.
Zodidi Gaseb, NBIC Events Planning and Management Officer says, “Art has become such an integral part of the Namibia Business Innovation Centre. Ever since our first exhibition we have always embarked on showcasing diverse artists in an attempt to encourage other businesses, institutions and stakeholders to contribute towards social innovation. Through our exhibitions, artists are able to engage with the NBIC public to better understand their artworks which will ensure the message they want to carry across is not misunderstood.”
Cowley has won numerous awards and has exhibited at different galleries in the country and South Africa. She is also a visual arts lecturer at the University of Namibia (Unam) thereby being in a position to further impart knowledge to those who would like to find out more about her artwork and art in general.
This will be the fourth exhibition to be held at the Innovation Village, after three successful showcases by Gerdis Stadherr, Ndasuunje ‘Papa’ Shikongeni and John Sampson during which a number of the paintings found new homes.
