Karas Region introduces aerobic gymnastics team

KEETMANSHOOP - The second aerobic gymnastics team for the Karas Region was formed in Keetmanshoop on Saturday following the selection of 31 boys and girls aged seven to 18 years.
The region first selected a regional aerobic gymnastics team last year based on the youngsters’ impressive performance during the regional aerobic gymnastics trials held by the Namibia Gymnastics Federation (NGF) in Keetmanshoop. Aerobic gymnastics involves participants performing continuously complex and high-intensity movement patterns to music.
Aerobic movement patterns are combinations of aerobic dance steps and arm movement patterns performed to music to create dynamic, rhythmic and continuous sequences of high and low impact movements. The Karas team comprises boys and girls from four schools in Keetmanshoop - St Matthias Primary School, Keetmanshoop Junior Secondary School, Krönlein Primary School and PK de Villiers Secondary School.
Speaking to Nampa shortly after the event, Aerobic Gymnastics president Marianne Bock said the southern team will compete in the national championship games scheduled to take place in Walvis Bay on 22 September. “I am very satisfied with the spirit of the event here because it went well. Parents were very supportive towards the learners, so we all enjoyed the event,” Bock said. Other regions set to compete in the aerobic gymnastics championships are the Khomas, Hardap, Otjozondjupa, Omaheke, Erongo, Oshana and Kunene Regions.
A national team comprising the best players from the eight regions will be selected to represent Namibia in the African Aerobic Gymnastics championship competition to be held next February.“The country where the African championship will be held is still to be announced,” Bock said.
She explained that a new national aerobic gymnastics team is selected every year. -Nampa
