Back to the roots for UDF

THE United Democratic Front (UDF) has decided against holding its congress in Windhoek as it is too expensive to do so, according to the party secretary general Dudu Murorua.
More than 350 members are expected to attend the congress. “We cannot afford to host the congress in Windhoek. Venues are to expensive there,” Murorua said in an interview adding that the party had decided to move the venue to Khorixas, a stronghold of UDF.
The congress will however still be held in the last week of September and Murorua said Khorixas had been chosen as the venue because it will be accessible to most party members.
UDF will be sending nomination forms to its branches throughout the country in the coming weeks.
Both the nomination forms and budget proposals for the congress, which will not be more than N$500 000 will be sent to the executive committee and extra-ordinary central committee for approval, said Murorua.
Murorua expressed concern that if UDF spends a lot of money on the upcoming congress, it will be difficult for it to prepare for the 2014 elections.
UDF president Justus //Garoeb will step down in September but the party may give him an honorary presidential status, according to Murorua. “The UDF will not throw him away just because he is stepping down.”
However bestowing //Garoeb with honorary status is still an idea on which congress will still have to decide.
