Shooting suspects appear in court
Ndanki Kahiurika
THE police officer who shot and killed a 22-year-old man in Shandumbala on Saturday appeared in the Windhoek Magistate’s Court in Katutura yesterday where his case was postponed to 1 October pending further investigations.

Linus Nzwana (26) was charged with the murder of Joel Martin whom he shot in the chest at close range along Tuin Street after the two had allegedly had an argument.

The Namibian reported yesterday that Nzwana used his private pistol allegedly defying calls by a female companion whom he was with in his car not to shoot Martin.

Nzwana of Rocky Crest who was off-duty at the time of the shooting is being represented by lawyer Louis La Grange.

In another shooting case, a Namibia Defence Force soldier, Martin Nimbunda (39) also appeared in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court in Katutura for the death of Iipinge Simon Natangwe in Greenwell Matongo, Katutura last week.

The court heard that Nimbunda shot Natangwe after an argument and that the public meted out instant justice on the soldier who sustained injuries.

Nimbunda who had no legal representation was denied bail and his case postponed to 27 September for further investigations and to allow him ample time to engage a lawyer.

These latest shootings involving members of the security forces come hard on the heels of the death of four people mowed down with an automatic service rifle in Katima Mulilo by Max Lucas (29), an NDF soldier.

Lucas, who committed suicide after the shooting, had had an argument over jackpot winnings in an army-owned bar.

  • Can we please avoid hasty comments and allow the investigation to yield the real facts, which, to my view, would also be one-sided because the deceased will not be there to give his side of the story. Unless of course, the said female who was with the suspect will be bold enough to tell what she saw or what she knows. Did the suspect have previous issues with the deceased before this fateful day.....maybe? Does the female companion know something? Can she talk without fear? Remember that in many situations where one of the parties is no more, the suspect will always embellish their story. I am not saying the suspect is guilty no, I am just stating that those who saw what happened or who know the real truth behind the shooting should assist the investigators by telling what they saw or what they know. • Oops there you again. To the Namibian civilians. Start respecting the men in uniforms especially you the so called Kwaitos in the street. You dnt want to go to school just to wonder in the streets and insulting grown ups. Get life and go study. Mamba. - Worriesome
  • If the case is of self defence than i dont see anything wrong cause the man was at the time defending him self just like any one would do and that man was trainend to kill. lets leav everything in judgese hands. - maslango
  • Its really shameful for our officer members to react in that way bt Civillians should also start respecting our members in Uniform infact they ar trainned to kill, so dont make a mistake to prove the situation, we mus look to both sides, who knws....may b they were tryng to defend themselves especialy the NDF one, i saw him on NBC news in the morning, he might loose his eye permanently. - Deon
  • Why is the world so cruel? It is a shame that our own nation protectors are the ones pointing guns to the nation. - Sasher
  • this nugers must just go to prison and thats it..or a life for a life..to hell with this so called polie officers and soldiers who think they can roam around killing innocent civilians just like that..if you want to be killing people then you should start with those that you gave life to or you start with your brothers and sisters. fuck them. - Savimbi
  • Based on what i observed, UNIFORM gave more power to this pple, they think they own everything.Officers do speak to Professorr rudely even, because they (professors) do not have uniform, but thats not how it suppose to be. They are not humble at all. Teach them their levels....... Stop mistreating, injuring & killing pple and remember the JUDGEMENT DAY will come. - NDF
  • People are totally different when they are at home and when they are at bars or on the streets. A person will break into your house, and when caught, act as if were you that were the one braking in.... Who are we to judge, you are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Let the law takes it's cause and may the truth prevails. Incidents like these ones should be a lesson to us. It could have been me or you that could have been in this situation. Let's learn from this experience and see how we can educate ourselves and our Nation to reduce crime. - driesie
  • Nahas, send them away if they want to kill ,where is the war but not in our country we want to live in peace tog , they must kill themselves and go to hell. - mirjam
  • why is it always a big issue if a member of the security force was involved in a murder case, how was that soldier injured whe should always look on both sides.maybe it was self defence and how many soldiers were not killed in Otjiwarongo and it was not a big deal.We Namibians should stop judging members of the Security Forces nobody is perfect. - maria
  • its not all about the Minister to talk to the soldiers, let's be logic and be realistic. does noes not mean the Honorable is not addressing his soldiers, this is happening at bars and not at work. the same thing happens when our parents talk to us at home and we go do things deferent out there!-Klosey - klosey
  • as a soldier i was trained to kill not to fight and we are very stressed with regrading so make no mistake to provoke the situation, i can die live in prison aslong i eat everyday just like you who is outside. - mavindu
  • i guess people responsible for this mess are the trainner for our safety member they need to be taught, how to deal with civillians of all types not just how to defend themselves on civillians attacked a bottles vs gunners. shame !!!!!!! - shaya
  • @ GRN, Nahas is their superior, if the belong to me why are they killing people around me then? - Edward

  • We have turned into beasts without morals thus shifting blames to law makers will not help or do our society any good. Spiritual leaders have to engage their congregations into soul seaching camps and spiritual healing lessons. - Sinfwa Joseph
  • @Edward, those people do belong to Nahas Angula. Lets not learn to shift blame on other. They also belong to you - GRN
  • Nahas Angula, talk to your people or send the on a mission somewhere if they want to kill.. we want to leave peacefully. - Edward
