CEO denies being above town councillors

KHORIXAS Town Council chief executive officer, Nicodemus #Gaeseb, said his councillors can suspend him if he does something wrong.

#Gaeseb, accused of exerting his powers on the councillors by the Khorixas Swapo District co-ordinator, Ellis Geiriseb, said when he shot down the allegations yesterday.

“I am not above the councillors. They can even suspend me today if I do something wrong,” he said. “The councillors are the ones who employed me and therefore such allegations are wild,” #Gaeseb said.

In June, Geiriseb accused #Gaeseb of running the town as if it was his personal farm when about 40 residents were given eviction orders over unpaid bills.

“It’s like his decisions are final . . . as if this is his farm and councillors just dance to his tune,” Geiriseb said at the time.

#Gaeseb told The Namibian then that residents owed the council N$20 million in unpaid bills and this was hampering development.

He has, however, said his message was misinterpreted.

“I did not tell the people that they will be evicted. I said if one does not pay bills then eviction can happen,” #Gaeseb said adding that evictions were not a must and that the town has never evicted anyone over the years.

#Gaeseb urged residents to consult his office if they are not able to pay water bills.

“Don’t sit at home and complain because it will not help. Let us consult each other,” #Gaeseb said.

  • Mr.Nick Gaeseb is fit for office and purpose of administering Khorixas beyond reasonable doubt. if he was not capable and qualified for the job than the town leadership under Compatriot Mathias Tsaeb would not have employed him. People like Ellis should start making suggestions on how to develop the town because they are in opposition. Our opposition in other towns are part of positive changes so why cant the opposition not.RR - Reginald Roman
