Ushona v Onyango in Oshikango
TYSON Ushona will top the bill when the MTC Nestor Sunshine Boxing & Fitness Academy’s next tournament takes place in Oshikango on 7 September.

Ushona will take on James Omogo Onyango of Kenya over 10 rounds.
Ushona has a record of 29 wins, two defeats and one draw and is ranked fourth in the world by the World Boxing Organisation, while Onyango has a record of 13 wins, seven defeats and one draw.

According to Nestor Tobias, they will stage the tournament in Oshikango, as part of their development responsibility.

“This is part of the Academy’s commitment to take boxing to the all 13 regions of Namibia and we are proud to be well on track with this mandate because we have so far been to the coast, Erongo, Oshana, Kunene, Hardap, Oshikoto and Omaheke where we promoted boxing clinics at professional and amateur level,” he said.

Tobias said that Oshikango residents can expect quality boxing when Ushona takes on Onyango.

“This is expected to be an exciting showdown as both boxers are deadly in the ring. Tyson Ushona has not lost a single fight in the last year and his boxing style is very entertaining and we therefore hope that the residents of Oshikango will come out in their numbers to support this bout because it is the first time that we will host such a big fight in Oshikango.”

In the main supporting bout, Samuel Kapapu will defend his national lightweight title against Jatoorora Tjingavete while there will be several other fights on the undercard.

“We promise a full night of exciting boxing and entertainment as Lady May is expected to entertain the boxing audience with her performances,” Tobias added.

An upbeat Ushona promised boxing fans an exciting fight:

“I am as fit as a fiddle and ready to knock him out” he said.

Tickets will go for N$ 200 VIP while standard tickets will go for N$50 only.

“We are making every effort to make our boxing matches accessible and affordable because this is the people’s sport,” Tobias said.

The boxing tournament will take place at the Oshikango Shopping Centre and tickets will be available from Computicket countrywide as well as from the Oshikango Shopping Centre. The first fight will officially start at 18h30.
