BEHIND the scenes jostling for the outgoing Rehoboth Council chief executive officer Theo Jankowski’s job has heated up.
Jankowski’s five-year contract expired at the end of June this year but council resolved that he should stay on until he completes recruiting a successor.
Jankowski yesterday said the council’s top job will be advertised within two weeks following the completion of the performance agreement of the next chief executive officer.
The Namibian understands that among those lobbying for the top job are human resources manager Willie Swartz, finance manager Johannes Iipinge and technical division manager Ernst De Waal.
Although both Swartz and De Waal said they do not have any ambitions for taking over from Jankowski, Iipinge refused to comment yesterday.
A source, however, told The Namibian that the three are lobbying councillors for support to land the top job.
Last year, Swapo Party extended Jankowski’s contract with a year. This move, according to the source, was made to enable Swartz, seen as the front-runner, to obtain a tertiary qualification required for the job.
