Ndokosho gets Ledesma challenge
STAFF REPORTER
NAMIBIA’S Gottlieb ‘The Bite’ Ndokosho will defend his IBF Africa, Middle East/Persian Gulf (AMEPG) featherweight title against Paraguayan Feliciano Dario Azuaga Ledesma on 28 September, the IBF announced yesterday.
The fight will be the main curtain raiser for the IBF International light heavyweight title showdown between Harry Simon and Geard Ajetovic from Serbia at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek.
The 39-year-old South American challenger, alias El Indio de Oro, has an astonishing record for a modern day boxer – having fought 110 times to date.
Twenty-two of those fights have ended in defeat, while he has won 84 (68 KO) and drawn twice.
However Ledesma has a poor record in title fights, having lost his last five. Ndokosho, ranked 14th by the IBF, won his title in September 2012 after knocking out Tanzania’s Rajabi Maoja in the opening round of their contest.
On 29 June, he knocked out Ibrahim Mostafa in round 4 of his first title defence.
The hard- punching Namibian will now defend the IBF AMEPG featherweight Title for the last time before moving on to fight for the vacant IBF International featherweight Title.
“It is against this background, the IBF offered him to fight for its vacant International featherweight title,” the IBF said in a statement.
