| 2013-08-05Youth celebrations and boerewors championships at ‘Huisgenoot Hart Van Windhoek’

It is almost time for the festivities to kick off in Windhoek again, and thanks to the ‘Huisgenoot Hart Van Windhoek’ Festival, Namibians can prepare themselves for a big party.
On Friday, 30 August, the festival will focus on entertaining the youth with performances by Bittereinder, Mi Casa, Shadowclub and other local and South African talent that will get young hearts racing.
Bittereinder, a trio all the way from Pretoria, whose music builds synergy between rap and a unique Afrikaans feel won a SAMA in 2011 for Best Alternative Afrikaans Album for ‘Ware Verhaal’ and in 2012 released their second album, ‘Dink-Dans-Masjien’.
Mi Casa is a group of unique individuals that combine their talents to create the original sound effects of soulful house entwined with jazz and gospel elements into one music mix. Their first album ‘Micasa Music’ (2011) won numerous SAMA awards in 2012, one of which was Best Dance Album.
“The first time I heard Shadowclub’s performance, my mouth hung open,” said 5FM presenter John Savage about the three man Blues-Rock group from Joburg, who won for Best Rock Album at the 2012 SAMAs with their debut album ‘Guns and Money’ (2011).
Besides the music line-up waiting to entertain the youth, the annual boerewors championship will provide visitors with a delicious showcase of boerewors recipes. The Shoprite and Checkers Namibian Champion Boerewors competition has grown drastically over the last four years, from a humble cash prize of N$10 000 to an array of prizes including the likes of Weber braais and a single cab Hilux sponsored by Idongo Toyota.
Master chefs Martin Kobalt and Jeff Scheuremans will entertain crowds, as well as the the talented Ian Roberts and the Radio Kalahari Orkes.
The ‘Hart Van Windhoek’ Festival takes place over two days, on 30 and 31 August at The Doc Jubber Sport Grounds in Windhoek. Gates open at 16h00 for Friday’s concert.
Tickets for Friday’s Youth celebrations are available at Computicket or any Shoprite or Checkers outlet. Ticket prices average between N$89 and N$140. Kids under 12 get access for only N$25, these tickets will also be available at the gates. No under 18s will be allowed into the bars and beverages will be available at the stands.
