A Right-Wing ‘Communist’ Party?
THE Communist Party (CP) of Namibia is yet again playing a dangerous game. It has entered into a political alliance with former South African Defence Force elements.

I view this as political opportunism in order to get a lucrative seat in the bourgeois Parliament of Namibia! It is really only a communist party by name; it clearly has a reformist agenda. Sitting in a bourgeois parliament is just a waste of time and will never lead to the liberation of the working class in this neo-liberal capitalist era. Parliament is only about the comfort and income of those who sit there; they very quickly lose touch with the working class.

What the leadership of the CP and other so-called leftists unfortunately do not realise is that they are discrediting the entire left-wing project in Namibia with such unprincipled actions. And due to the intolerant political climate in this country, this Swapo-led government will use it as an excuse to clamp down on the left-wing.

And with elections coming up next year, Swapo will be looking for scapegoats for its failure to transform the lives of the Namibian people.

Instead of this so-called Communist Party, Namibia needs a genuine socialist party that can link up with a mass workers’ party of Southern Africa. Fundamental change will never happen through a bourgeois parliament, only through mass action. This is the only way to fight against capitalism.
