Who is your Namibian hero?
YOUR HERO? … Cgunta Khao//Khao (also known as Gert) is an example of a hero for helping to save an Australian woman from bushfires. Sadly, he lost three family members in the process and became severely burned on over 70% of his body.
Join Lifeline/Childline Namibia as they honour people who change and save lives in our communities. Heroes’ Day in Namibia is recognised by the United Nations and is elebrated annually on 26 August.
The day commemorates the Namibian War of Independence which began on 26 August 1966 at Omugulugwombashe.
Civil society organisations would like to invite children under the age of 18 to submit essays on their local heroes, highlighting why this person is their hero and how their hero has made an impact in their lives.
The aim is to celebrate local living heroes and find good role models that children can look up to.
Essays can be sent to The Namibian Youthpaper, Lifeline / Childline Head office at 45 Bismarck Street, Windhoek West and at Star for Life offices at no. 10 Newton Street in Windhoek.
Closing date for submissions is Wednesday, 21 August 2013
Civil society organisations involved are Lifeline / Childline Namibia, Star for Life, Postive Vibes Young Voices Project, Kayec and Ombetja Yehinga Organisation
