CoD condemns evictions of illegal farmers
Hileni Nembwaya
THE president of the Congress of Democrats (CoD), Ben Ulenga, has condemned the eviction of the drought-stricken farmers from outside the communal areas around the country as illegal.
Speaking during a media briefing at Oshakati, Ulenga said tribalism was behind the unethical removal of the farmers from certain traditional areas.
Ulenga referred to recent evictions of drought-stricken farmers from the communal areas of Omatjete, Tsumkwe and the removal of illegal farmers in the Ondonga area.
The farmers were ordered out earlier this year.
“There is tribalism going on with some traditional authorities. Why is the government not acting? I really blame the government for their ignorance,” said Ulenga.
He requested the government to provide preventative measures in order to bring an end to continued issues of tribalism, saying he is ready to tackle land issues without causing chaos.
CoD leaders will meet in Windhoek at the end of August and also hold a congress by the end of November.
