Nudo urges Kamwi to resign
Tileni Mongudhi
THE National Unity Democratic Organisation (Nudo) has called for Health Minister Richard Kamwi to resign.

The party’s deputy secretary general, Vetaruhe Kandorozu, yesterday said Kamwi failed to provide leadership, guidance and wisdom during his term as health minister.

“Kamwi must go before we call the State hospital a slaughter house or human abattoir,” Kandorozu said adding that Kamwi “must leave our patients in peace”.

Kandorozu also called on President Hifikepunye Pohamba, as Kamwi’s appointing authority, to dismiss Kamwi with “immediate effect”.

“Nudo party would like to know from the appointing authority as to how many babies still have to be delivered on the floor of a hospital before you step in? How many babies still have to die in a hospital due to negligence before you act?” he posted the questions to the President before requesting that Kamwi should be demoted to an ordinary Member of Parliament. He added that the President was sitting a side while the nation is perishing.

He said his party calls for the resignation because the entire country’s health standard has severely deteriorated. “where ever you go, you will hear of mortuaries that are out of order, ambulances that are not available and facilities falling apart,” he claimed.

He added that it was uncalled for for patients to be forced to carry buckets of water from the ground floor of the hospital to their floors, some as high as the seventh floor, given this was not the first time that patients were subjected to such treatment as it had happened before at the Katutura State Hospital, which is not far from the Windhoek Central Hospital.

“We are also extending our sincere condolences to those mothers and fathers who lost their children and families due to of the poor leadership and negligence of the Ministry of Health and Social Services,” Kandorozu said.

Kandorozu was making reference to the situation in which the Central State Hospital went without water for most of last week.

  • It's a big shame to read this kind of article as a Namibian, Kwami need to leave the office like ASAP. Hospitals had gone from bad to worse since he got in the office. How is it possible for hospital to go for a week without water/electricity? Namibia is never going to grow with this kind of issue. Am surprice that he didn't get a lawsuit. It's about time for the Namibian to get up and smell the coffee. God bless Namibia . - Marry Tate
