WINDHOEK – The Namibian Competition Commission (NaCC) will next month hold a national workshop to train the country’s judges on competition policy and law. The workshop will be held on 12 September. The NaCC’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Secretary Heinrich Mihe Gaomab II announced on Wednesday during a media briefing in the capital, that the national workshop will assist in setting the tone on competition judicial proceedings, also in light of the respective judicial functions of the High Court and the Supreme Court of Namibia.
The NaCC also felt it pertinent to engage the highest ranks of the judiciary to assist the Commission on the judicial processes involved in hearings of competition-related cases.
“The Commission is in the process of capacitating the judicial courts and systems on competition cases to acquaint the judiciary with the processes involved in the handling of such cases,” he said.
The NaCC was established in 2009 to promote a culture of fair competition, which allows all players in the market arena to have a fair chance of establishing businesses and growing their businesses, and in so doing contribute to the overall economic development of the country. – Nampa
